The nearby Marjan hill was a refuge for hermits for a long time. In today’s cave of St. Jere was the old oratory of St. Cirijaka in spelunca, in grotta, as recorded by Thomas the Archdeacon. Along with the oratory, it is recorded that it was carved and integrated into the cliffs of the Kirijelejson hill, (one of the historical names of Marjana), furthermore, this name is identical with St. Cyriacum. And a cave further west in a vertical rock, blocked by Kerepić in 1523. year, was a hermitage. For hermits or hermits according to Marjan, Archbishop Cosmi at the end of the 17th century. century states that they are guardians and sacristan of Marian churches.
